Emilia Fox, Joanne Froggatt and Ben Chaplin join cast of BBC1’s The Secrets

The five-part drama strand from Bafta-winning director Dominic Savage will showcase up and coming writing talent alongside a cast that also includes Olivia Colman and Alison Steadman

Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt, Silent Witness’s Emilia Fox, and Ben Chaplin – last seen in wartime comedy-drama The Wipers Times – are the latest stars to sign up for BBC1’s new drama strand The Secrets.

Olivia Colman, Alison Steadman, Ashley Walters, Sara Solemani, Helen Baxendale and Steve Oram are among the well-known British actors already announced for the five-part series of half-hour standalone stories from up and coming writers – one of whom is Solemani herself.

Fox (pictured above), Chaplin and Froggatt will appear together in an episode written by Elinor Cook about a man with two wives whose double life is exposed.

Colman, Steadman and Oram are collaborating on Nick Payne’s story of a vet who has all the chemicals to put pets to sleep and a mother who is chronically ill, while Solemani’s tale joins a bride on the eve of her wedding as she discovers that her fiancé was once accused of a shocking crime.

Juliette Howell, head of television at production company Working Title, said “I’m thrilled that Dominic has assembled such a stellar line up. It’s hugely exciting to see so many of our finest actors bringing these original and distinctive new voices to life on BBC1.”

The Secrets will air on BBC1 later this year.
