Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe to film Frankenstein in Manchester with James McAvoy

The Woman in Black actor will play Igor in a remake of the classic horror tale, and filming is set to take place in familiar locations around the northern city

Daniel Radcliffe will join other A-listers including Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) and James McAvoy (Filth) in the big budget Frankenstein production directed by Paul McGuigan (Sherlock, Push, Wicker Park) – to be filmed in Manchester this year.

Radcliffe will play former grave robber Igor from the Mary Shelley tale. Meanwhile, James McAvoy will play scientist Victor Frankenstein, who creates the monster, and Jessica Brown Findlay will play a circus performer named Lorelei in the film.

Movie shooting locations are rumoured to include the Manchester town hall, the city’s Northern Quarter and Albert Square.

Each location will get an eerie gothic makeover, and some scene will include as many as 200 extras, as well as life-sized props like horses and carts.

It’s also believed that Radcliffe will sport long hair in the production, to match his 18th century garb in the movie.

Manchester has featured in a number of movie shoots including Captain America, Sherlock Holmes and The Iron Lady.
