Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club – hotel review

With a large sweeping balcony from which to watch the racing (or simply soak up the views) it’s hard not to feel a little like a king here whilst enjoying the sport of kings

If like me you’ve never stayed in a hotel that overlooks a horse racing track before then you’re in for quite a thrill when you arrive at this very comfortable and relaxing residence in the rural Sussex countryside.

Built into Lingfield racecourse, the hotel overlooks the famous track – and if you’re lucky enough to visit on a race day it makes for a brilliant position from which to watch the sport of kings from the the bar, restaurant, private garden at the front – or from the comfort of your bedroom.

However, you don’t have to be a fan of racing to be a fan of this hotel – a truly relaxing retreat.  Equipped with a spa (offering a range of treatments), swimming pool and a golf course good enough to host the EuroPro tour – there’s plenty of reasons to choose the hotel if you just want to get away from it all.

Many of the rooms (and the corner suite in which we stayed) offer panoramic views of the racecourse, the golf course and the beautiful green rolling Sussex hills beyond. You can’t help but relax in such an environment – and the hotel has been designed to make the most of its position. Floor to ceiling windows bathe the fashionably decorated rooms with light making the already spacious residences seem even bigger.

With a large sweeping balcony from which to watch the racing (or simply soak up the views) it’s hard not to feel a little like a king here whilst enjoying the sport of kings.

Friendly staff are keen to help make your stay as comfortable as possible, and are particularly good with young children.  We stayed with a young baby and found staff in all areas of the hotel, from the swimming pool to the restaurant went out of their way to help us and her make the most of the hotel. The hotel also provided a travel cot in our room on request.

Although the hotel has 110 rooms, it rarely feels crowded – and even on race days when it’s at its most busy, there’s always a quiet corner in which to rest and relax.

Overall, this is a nice place to stay whether you’re a fan of racing and golf – or simply want to get away from it all.  With modern well-equipped rooms containing everything you would expect from the Marriot brand – this is a great choice for couples, families or friends looking for an extra special day at the races.

Eating and drinking

Located on the edge of the racecourse with views across the track, the Cyprium Bar and Grill offers a contemporary dining environment with a good menu of traditional British fayre.

As you might expect from a grill, the restaurant carries an extensive selection of meats – from southern US favourites like a rack of ribs in barbecue sauce or Buffalo wings to a shin of beef or hearty burgers.

With European inspired pasta dishes, salads and soups – the restaurant offers something for every taste, all of which is delivered by particularly friendly staff who go out of their way to ensure you have a relaxed dining experience without feeling rushed.

The restaurant also plays host to lunch, and to a buffet –style breakfast of traditional English fayre (eggs cooked to order) as well as a good continental selection.

The Cyprium Bar is open throughout the day and evening offering  relaxed environment to have a drink.

A room service menu is also available within the hotel.
