Mrs Brown’s Boys wins best Comedy at NTAs 2014

Brendan O'Carroll's BBC1 sitcom beat Ricky Gervais's Derek, Miranda Hart's BBC2 comedy and US import The Big Bang Theory

Mrs Brown’s Boys has picked up best Comedy at this year’s National Television Awards, with viewer votes clearly reflecting the huge audiences the show regularly pulls in for BBC1.

Brendan O’Carroll’s cross-dressing sitcom beat Ricky Gervais’s Channel 4 series Derek, Miranda Hart’s BBC2 comedy Miranda and US import The Big Bang Theory, which airs in the UK on E4.

O’Carroll accepted the award from Sex & the City’s Mr Big, Chris Noth, but was joined on stage by a huge gathering of cast and crew members.

The star-studded ceremony was hosted by Dermot O’Leary and broadcast live on ITV from London’s O2 Arena.
