Joey Essex to host his own Idiot Abroad-style travel show

The I’m a Celebrity... and TOWIE star will go on an African adventure, giving us the chance to laugh at his encounters along the way

ITV2 has booked Joey Essex to be the star of a new travel show, which insiders have likened to Ricky Gervais’ An Idiot Abroad, featuring Karl Pilkington.

Although he’s only just made it out of the celebrity jungle, TV bosses have seen the entertainment value in Joey’s hilarious innocence. On I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Joey learned how to tell the time with an analogue clock, light a fire with a tampon and the difference between cabbage and lettuce. In his new travel show he’ll be heading off to Africa.

“He’s a bit of a car crash to watch,” said an inside source to The Daily Star. “so he’s perfect for this type of series.”

It’s believed that Joey will be setting off on his journey in the New Year, but the execs at The Only Way Is Essex are not too pleased about the news. It’s rumoured that they don’t want one of their central characters to be unavailable for filming.

Meanwhile, Joey Essex is doing what he can to keep up his profile after his appearance on I’m a Celebrity… He and Amy Willerton have been see at events together and photographed as a couple. It was revealed that the pair is worth £5 million as a couple, and much less individually.
