Yesterday the festive special was confirmed for 8:30pm on Christmas Day – and then we were treated to some juicy plot details. Think royal visits, terrible scandals and moral dilemmas.

Now? We’ve got some pictures to give you a sneak peak at the drama…

We are assuming this is Buckingham Palace rather than the Crawley’s London residence, though it could be that the family make Carson and co dress in a more festive fashion down in the capital. When in Rome…

Dreadfully excited, Rose has put some fancy feathers in their hair and everything to meet the King. Either that or she’s keen to nab a white-stockinged footman as her next squeeze. There are just so many men in the room, how’s a girl to choose?

That’s right, Rose. Eyes on the floor.

Ah, the Americans. Here’s Martha Levinson, a vision in rusty orange, fresh off the ferry from the US of A. It seems her and a sour-faced Carson have already had an altercation. For a butler, Carson really is incredibly bad at hiding his displeasure…

Harold “playboy” Levinson is making his debut appearance, clad in classic playboy hat and furry collar. That cocked eyebrow is clearly a sign of the havoc he’s planning on wreaking in London’s high society. Expect champagne, girls and poor financial decisions from Cora’s naughty brother.

He’s a fast mover. Looks as though Harold’s already working his crooked charm on this young lass. Why has everyone abandoned the picnic? It seems unwise to leave the self-confessed pleasure-seeker alone without a chaperone…

Looks like Martha Levinson is after a spot of romance too. It’s been years since Mr Levinson popped his clogs, after all. And it’s not fair if Harold is always the one having all the fun. This English gentleman seems like the perfect way to fill time between sparring matches with Violet Crawley…

Downton Abbey’s Christmas special is on Christmas Day at 8:30pm on ITV.
