After last night’s British themed X Factor – with the acts singing everything from Sir Elton John to Shirley Bassey – time was up for Sam Callahan.
Saturday night’s flash vote appears to be gone for good, so both bottom two acts were revealed tonight.
It was a double blow for judge Louis Walsh as both singers were from his category, with Luke Friend put up against Sam Callahan.
Luke sang U2 track I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For with his guitar. But a performance of the Goo Goo Dolls I Don’t Want The World To See Me wasn’t enough to save Sam.
Louis, unsurprisingly refused to vote between his acts, so abstained from the final vote. Nicole Scherzinger said Sam had saved his best performance until his position in the competition was on the line and so voted to send him home. Gary Barlow told Sam it was the best performance he’d ever given and admitted while he’s given him some harsh criticism, he’s taken it like a man and will go far. Sharon Osbourne added that she too would have sent Sam home (her vote by this point didn’t change the result) and said she was “mad” at him for keeping his best performance for the end.
Six acts are now left in the competition and the acts will be performing former X Factor stars’ songs as One Direction, Olly Murs, JLS and more return to perform, too.
The X Factor continues next Saturday and Sunday at 8:00pm on ITV
