It seems Fifty Shades’ Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele won’t be ready for action until 13 February 2015, as Universal has delayed the film’s release date by six months.
It might come as a disappointment to fans who were hoping to get a glimpse of Christian Grey next summer, but at least we know we’ve all got plans for Valentine’s Day 2015!
Universal hasn’t given a reason for the delay, but it’s fair to assume Charlie Hunnam’s departure from the project and the re-casting of Jamie Dornan has had a significant impact on the movie’s production schedule. It was recently announced that filming was delayed by a month and will now start in December, which would have given the much-anticipated movie just nine months to be ready for its big screen release.
“We see this movie as a global event,” Universal’s chairman Donna Langley told Entertainment Weekly. “Together with the international marketing and distribution team, we’ve been looking really closely at the August date and becoming more and more convinced that the right thing to do for the movie was to push it.”
Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson star as the leads in Fifty Shades of Grey. They will be joined by Luke Grimes, Jennifer Ehle and Victor Rasuk.
The film, which is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is based on the first of three internationally bestselling novels by EL James. The plot follows the bedroom escapades of wealthy, S&M-loving businessman Grey and innocent college graduate Ana.
The first images of the film’s leads in character were released yesterday –take a look here.
