Strictly Come Dancing contestant Natalie Gumede will not appear on tonight’s live show after she fainted twice during this afternoon’s dress rehearsals, the BBC have confirmed.
The 29-year-old Coronation Street actress was looked over by the medical team and will visit A&E “as a precaution”. A BBC spokesman confirmed that, “As per the rules of Strictly she will receive a bye through to next week and the show will continue tonight with a public vote.”
The actress – who along with her partner, Artem Chigvintsev, topped the leaderboard with an impressive 38 points last week – had tweeted earlier today, telling her 90,000 followers that her “old bones are tired.”
Her tweet refers to the Jive dance she had been set to perform this week to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary.
Today’s incident is not the first time Gumede has suffered from injury during this year’s competition. Last month she missed rehearsals for the 19 October show, undergoing an MRI scan to confirm she had not slipped a disc in her back.
Gumede is currently one of the favourites to win this year’s competition ahead of her rivals Susanna Reid, Ashley Taylor Dawson, Abbey Clancey and Ben Cohen.
Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturdays at 6:30pm and Sundays at 7:20pm on BBC1
