Matt Smith, David Tennant, Billie Piper and John Hurt appear in Doctor Who 50th anniversary trailer

Jenna Coleman and Joanna Page also star in new The Day of the Doctor official footage, along with Daleks, the Tardis, a fez and a mysterious alien city...

After months of waiting, the official trailer for Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary has finally arrived, released early by the BBC this morning after a series of online leaks.

The 40 seconds of The Day of the Doctor footage begins with the Tardis looking in pretty rough shape, with footprints suggesting its recent inhabitant has made a swift escape…

The scene then cuts to a sky of alien ships, before Matt Smith can be heard saying, “I’ve had many faces, many lives.” He continues, “There’s one life I’ve tried very hard to forget,” before the camera switches to John Hurt’s mysterious character. “I’m looking for the Doctor,” he announces.

The trailer stars the two Doctors – Smith and his previous incarnation, David Tennant – together for the first time with the now-iconic fez and Amy’s glasses.

Their companions, Jenna Coleman as Clara and Billie Piper as Rose, also appear in the new footage, as does Joanna Page who recently confirmed she’d be playing Queen Elizabeth I in the feature-length episode. Oh, and the Daleks are out to “EXTERMINATE” once again.

The jam-packed edit comes to a close with Rose informing John Hurt’s character, “The moment is coming,” to which he replies, “I’m ready,” before Matt Smith yells “Geronimo” from within the Tardis.

Have we got you excited? Good. Take a look for yourself…

The Day of the Doctor will air on Saturday 23 November at 7:50pm on BBC1
