Fashion designer Julien MacDonald has become the third person to leave this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The bubbly 42-year-old was voted out alongside his professional dancing partner Janette Manrara after a lacklustre salsa to Spice Up Your Life by The Spice Girls on Saturday night.

Julien had survived the dance-off for the past two weeks but it was third time unlucky for the Welsh-born star. He found himself facing Countdown’s Rachel Riley in the bottom two, and all four of the BBC1 show’s judges, Craig, Darcey, Len and Bruno, decided it was time to send him home.

Julien, who previously appeared as a fashion correspondent on Strictly’s companion show It Takes Two, had failed to impress the judges during his time on the dancing competition – he scored 23 points for his salsa, 20 for his cha cha in the first week and just 18 for his week-two tango. But he had been ahead of Fiona Fullerton, Dave Myers and Deborah Meadon on the leaderboard following the judges’ initial scoring, before the viewer vote knocked him into the dreaded bottom two.

Of his departure, Julien said: “I’d like to thank everyone at home for voting for me, all the audience and the judges – even Craig! Most of all I’ve had an amazing time and this has been the best experience of my life and I’ve left on a high, I hope I have spiced everybody’s night up!”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday night on BBC1.
