My oh my, it was almost easy to forget the point of tonight’s results show with everything else going on.
For one thing, all of the the final twelve acts got together and did their first group performance – a cover of Daft Punk’s Get Lucky. After the 80s theme last night the acts looked far happier singing a song they’d actually heard of.
Nicole Scherzinger was up on her feet, but she does that a lot so maybe we shouldn’t take too much from that.
But then it was onto the guest performances and well, it’s safe to say Ellie Goulding’s live version of her number one hit Burn won’t be forgotten in a hurry, wearing a rather daring side split gold dress. Hands up if you’d be brave enough to give that one a twirl in your local…
Then Cher, yes Cher Cher, not Cher Lloyd, actual Cher turned up and gave the young whippersnappers a little lesson in doing an effortless performance. With a lightsaber cage thing for stage decoration. Naturally. It’s Cher.
But after all of the glitz it was back to business and let’s face it, you can’t help but get caught up in the tension. After we got through the ‘no particular order’ bit, it was Lorna Simpson who joined Shelley Smith in a sing-off between two of Sharon Osbourne’s Overs.
After Shelley performed Beyonce’s One Night Only and Lorna sang Faith Hill’s There You’ll Be it was over to the judges.
As mentor to both acts Sharon bowed out of voting, before Louis Walsh opted to send Lorna home and Gary Barlow voted against Shelley. The final vote was up to Nicole who sent Lorna packing, leaving Sharon Osbourne “stumped”.
