Brit wins Urban Photographer of the Year with Kirsten Dunst shot

Mark French beat 12,500 entries to win this year’s ‘Cities at Work’ themed show

Photographers were given the task of capturing the essence of urban life at different times throughout the day, in a bid to win a luxury photography safari.

Mark French’s winning pic shows a solitary tram driver surrounded by a huge advertising billboard of Kirsten Dunst, taken at 9am during Hong Kong’s rush hour. The photographer beat 12,500 entries to claim the coveted prize.

The runner up was also British, photographer Glenn Surtees, took a picture at 7am of a worker inspecting the rooftop of a theatre in Singapore.

The third prize went to Rui Pedro Moura Barbosa Dias, with his image of firefighters putting out a factory fire in his native Portugal.

In it’s sixth year, the competition, run by property advisor CBRE, has become the largest global photography competition of its kind. This year it gained a record number of entrants, hailing from 118 countries from the Chilean coast to the deserts of Saudi Arabia.
