Nominated for: Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Role: Mr Carson in Downton Abbey
“People do seem to take to Carson – because an English butler is an iconic role, isn’t it?” Jim Carter said recently. After being nominated in the Emmys for a second year in a row, it’s hard to argue with him.
And with the fourth series of Downton Abbey also starting in the UK this weekend, Carter’s butler is set to charm all over again.
However, whether surly charm is enough to win in the competitve category he finds himself in is another matter: Aaron Paul and Jonathan Banks from Breaking Bad, Mandy Patinkin from Homeland and Bobby Carnavale from Boarwalk Empire – it’s a strong field.
Not that Carter will be downhearted, we’re sure. He’s already confirmed he will be at the ceremony this Sunday with his wife Imelda Staunton, also nominated for an Emmy this year (read her bio here). Although, I wonder what the cab ride home will be like if only one of them is carrying a gong.
