Poor Masood – just as he’s about to reveal to Carol that he loves her, who should walk back into her life but old flame David Wicks!
Yes, the sleazy and disreputable David (one-time boyfriend of Carol and father to her daughter Bianca) is set to turn up on the doorstep of No 31 Albert Square and will waste no time in making himself feel at home.
Certainly Carol will be left feeling very uncomfortable after David probes her life with Masood and reveals parts of their past she’d rather forget.
It was confirmed back in July that womanising David (played as ever by Michael French) would be heading back to Walford following a brief reappearance in 2012 when he visited mum Pat on her deathbed.
During his original time on the BBC1 soap between 1993 and 1996, David’s most notable storyline saw him have an affair with Cindy Beale, wife of his half-brother Ian. During the course of the fling, Cindy even hired a hitman to kill Ian, although he did of course survive the assassination attempt.
After his first stint on EastEnders came to an end in 1996, Michael French went on to star in the short-lived fantasy drama Crime Traveller before embarking on a long-running stint as Nick Jordan on both Holby City and Casualty.
David’s arrival, which will be broadcast on Thursday 26 September, follows the recent return of Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) and a one-off appearance from Barbara Windsor as Peggy Mitchell which will air on Friday 20 September.
