After pooling reviews from around the world, website metacritic.com awarded the AMC drama, made by Sony, a metascore of 99 out of 100.

Last year ITV costume drama Downton Abbey scooped the award with a metascore of 92.

Of course, BB also joins a variety of more obscure records in the book, including tallest mohican (Walter White can only dream), shortest bull and the heaviest bike that can be cycled…

Breaking Bad is currently in its fifth and final series, racing towards its highly anticipated finale.

Bryan Cranston, who plays drugs kingpin Walter White, told RadioTimes.com that fans’ feelings towards Walter would fluctuate right up until the end, but would not reveal whether his character survives.

Breaking Bad is currently airing on Netflix in the UK, with the final episode scheduled for 30 September.
