Graham Seed – AKA The Archers’ Nigel Pargetter – is returning to Radio 4

Seed, who was killed off in the 60th-anniversary episode, is glad to be returning to the network

Aaarrgghhhhh! What’s that?

It’s Nigel Pargetter dying in The Archers…but now he is back from the dead.

Or Graham Seed is.

The actor, whose character took a rather undignified exit from the Radio 4 drama during the 60th anniversary episode in January 2011 with one of the most blood-curdling screams you are ever likely to hear, is to join the cast of a new two-part drama for the station.

The Russian Gambler, slated for 17 and 24 November, is based on Dostoyevsky’s The Gambler. Relocating the drama to modern-day London it centres on Russian oligarchs living in the capital, and also stars Ed Stoppard, Eleanor Bron and Matthew Marsh.

Seed plays a rich, slightly strange, sinister Englishman called Ashley. “I missed radio enormously. It was so good to be back doing more radio, and I tried very hard not to sound like Nigel Pargetter,” he told Radio Times. “I’d love to do more radio, this is just a start.”
