Breaking Bad, Being Human and Game of Thrones stars join the cast of Ripper Street

David Costabile, Damien Molony and Joseph Mawle will join Matthew MacFadyen and Jerome Flynn in series two of the period crime drama

Ripper Street has bolstered its cast for series two with a trio of stars from cult hits Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Being Human.

David Costabile – who appeared as chemist Gale Boetticher in Breaking Bad alongside Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul – will star in the two-part finale as Daniel Judge, the older brother of Adam Rotherburg’s character, Jackson.

Damien Molony, best known for playing vampire Hal in Being Human, has signed up to play new H Division constable Albert Flight, joining forces to fight crime with Jackson as well as Matthew MacFadyen and Jerome Flynn’s characters Reid and Drake.

Joseph Mawle, who played Benjen Stark in Game of Thrones (alongside fellow GoT star Jerome Flynn) and appeared with Eddie Redmayne in Birdsong, has been cast as corrupt Inspector Jedidiah Shine, with newcomer Leanne Best also set to appear as Jane Cobden – the first woman to be elected to the London County Council.

Further series two guest stars include Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), Gina Bellman (Coupling), Neve McIntosh (Doctor Who) and James Wilby (Maurice), with Myanna Buring and Charlene McKenna also due to reprise their roles of Long Susan and Rose.

“It’s fantastic to be reunited with much of the wonderful cast and crew from last year,” said MacFadyen. “Also to be reunited with my bowler hat – I’d missed it.

“The show’s creator Richard Warlow has given us wonderful, strange and unsettling episodes, teeming with the fierce and fragile life of Victorian Whitechapel.”

The second series will see the show jump forward to 1890 and is expected to return to our screens in early 2014.
