The birth of the royal baby: how the newspapers reacted

Who went for a photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge? Who plumped for a pic of the golden easel? And who changed their name in honour of the birth...?

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm.” And with that statement the world’s media went into overdrive, churning out the headlines that would grace the morning’s papers. 


As the Duchess and her newborn recovered in hospital, the press crafted their own take on arguably the biggest story of the year. Some went with pictures of the happy couple ahead of the birth, others opted for the golden easel placed outside Buckingham Palace with the official announcement. One even changed the name of their newspaper in honour of the nation’s new prince.
