Beach Boys movie currently shooting in California

TV's John Wells is filming the rock band biopic Love & Mercy in Southland

Beach Boys biographical drama, Love & Mercy, will be shot in various locations around Southern California and Hollywood this month, and produced by TV director John Wells (ER, The West Wing, Shameless).

The movie, which is based on the songwriter and leader of the band Brian Wilson, who created that distinctive surfer California sound from the ‘60s, will star John Cusack (Being John Malcovich, 2012, High Fidelity), Paul Dano (Little Miss Sundshine), Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games) and Paul Giamatti (Sideways, Saving Private Ryan).

Love & Mercy will follow Wilson as he creates some of the greatest tracks ever recorded and then suffers a nervous breakdown. He begins treatment with controversial therapist Dr. Eugene Landy, who also treated Alice Cooper, known in the press as ‘Doctor Feelgood’.

Love & Mercy is due for release in 2014.
