Daisy Lewis set to join the cast of Downton Abbey

The British actress will star in series four of the hit ITV period drama

Daisy Lewis is set to join the cast of hit ITV period drama, RadioTimes.com can confirm.

The British actress, whose TV CV includes Doctor Who, Lewis and The Lady Vanishes, will star in the fourth series of the nation’s favourite period drama series.

Rumour has it that she will play the Crawley’s live-in nanny who’ll look after baby Sybil as well as Mary’s new arrival. But her plot lines won’t be confined to the nursery. Apparently Lewis is set to becoming the first lady to warm Branson’s broken heart since his wife, the lovely Lady Sybil, died in childbirth in a shocking episode half way through series three.

Tom Branson, who is played by Allen Leech, started off as the Crawley’s chauffeur before falling for and marrying the family’s youngest sister Sybil. He toyed with a new romance in the 2012 Christmas special when new maid Edna took a liking to him before deciding that he wasn’t ready to move on.

Daisy Lewis is no stranger to the cast and crew of Downton Abbey. She worked with Downton creator Julian Fellowes and acted alongside Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville in her first feature film From Time to Time.

Downton Abbey series four is currently being filmed – they were spotted at the beach last week.

The series will return for eight episodes and a Christmas special later this year.
