First look! Tom Hanks as Walt Disney

The first image from Saving Mr Banks has been released, starring Tom Hanks and a sour-faced Emma Thompson

The pair are playing king of animation Walt Disney and PL Travers, the author who penned children’s’ classic Mary Poppins, as they wander through Disneyland.

Saving Mr Banks focuses on the life of Mary Poppins author PL Travers (Thompson), with the action flitting between her Australian childhood in the early 1900s and the making of the Mary Poppins film in the 1960s. Relations between Travers and the man who brought Mary Poppins, Bert and the Banks to life on the big screen were infamously troublesome, so perhaps that explains Emma Thompson’s less than happy expression…

Directed by John Lee Hancock and adapted by Fifty Shades of Grey screenwriter Kelly Marcel, Saving Mr Banks also stars Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Rachel Griffiths and Luther’s Ruth Wilson.

Saving Mr Banks will be in UK cinemas 17 January 2014.
