Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman confirmed for Independence Day 2

Director says the duo will return for the sequel – and hints at a Will Smith cameo

Independence Day director Roland Emmerich has revealed that both Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will be back fighting aliens in the much-anticipated sequel.

Goldblum, also well known for roles in Jurassic Park and The Fly, will reprise his role as David Levinson – a computer-loving genius turned alien crusher – while, according to, Pullman will be back as the inspirational US President Thomas J Whitmore, who delivered this memorable piece of tearjerking cheese as earth prepared for battle with alien forces.

A number of reports suggest Will Smith will not be returning as heroic Marine pilot Captain Steven Hiller, but Emmerich is said to have hinted that the star will be back for a “pass the torch” style cameo.

The slight chink in the armour is the rumoured name, ID Forever, which frankly sounds like Harry Styles and the One Direction gang are going to turn up and flirt the aliens to death…
