If your spidey senses have been tingling as of late, it’s for good reason. Sony Entertainment Pictures has announced release dates for two additional instalments of the Amazing Spider-Man series.
With filming for the 2012 summer blockbuster’s sequel underway, it looks like Peter Parker’s life expectancy will extend an additional five years. The studio has announced that The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will hit theatres by June 10, 2016. Its follow-up, The Amazing Spider-Man 4, will premiere on May 4, 2018.
Yes, Spider-Man fanatics, that means you can expect a new summer blockbuster featuring our favourite wall-scaling hero every two years.
“Spider-Man is our most important, most successful and most beloved franchise,” Sony’s Jeff Blake said. “We’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will reprise their roles as Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, and Gwen Stacy. New villains will join the pair, including Rhino (Paul Giamatti), Electro (Jamie Foxx) and the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan). With the final two films, there will be plenty room for more baddies in store.
Although The Amazing Spider-Man was originally expected to be a trilogy, confirmation of a fourth instalment puts director Marc Webb’s revival of the superhero one more film above Sam Raimi’s series with Tobey Maguire in the spandex suit.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been in production in New York City and will open on May 2, 2014. Might as well book your advance tickets for all three soon.
