A job you love? Pah! A nice home? Nah. Your family? Forget it…
It turns out all we Brits need is an internet connection and a TV set and we are good to go.
A recent poll comissioned by Disney has revealed that when it comes to the bare necessities of modern life, the top two things we couldn’t live without are a good internet connection and a television. Although a cuddle, a trustworthy best friend, an ‘I love you’ every now and then and a solid marriage did make it into the top 20 (phew!), it seems we could do without all of that as long as our broadband held up… Yikes.
While both sexes can’t face life without the internet (it’s because you’d miss RadioTimes.com too much, right?), us women are slightly less materialistic than men. The ladies ranked cuddles most highly while men professed that the top thing they wouldn’t be able to cope without was the TV.
When it comes to the rest of our bare necessities, a good cuppa ranked highly in seventh place, while coffee, chocolate, a glass of wine, a full English and a pint all made it into the top 20. It seems as well as keeping our bellies full, we are also fans of a bit of a wallow, with a night in on the sofa coming in at number 14 and a good cry making it into 16th place. Others professed that they couldn’t live without an annual foreign holiday. Fancy.
Worryingly for the visually impaired, spectacles only made it in to 11th place. You know you can’t see the internet without your glasses, right?
Here are the top 20 things we just can’t live without:
1. Internet connection 2. Television 3. A cuddle 4. A trustworthy best friend 5. Daily shower 6. Central heating 7. Cup of tea 8. An “I love you” every now and then 9. A solid marriage 10. Car 11. Spectacles 12. Coffee 13. Chocolate 14. Night in on the sofa 15. Glass of wine 16. A good cry every now and then 17. A full English breakfast 18. A foreign holiday once a year 19. iPhone 20. A pint
The poll, which asked 2,000 people about their life essentials, was conducted to mark the Blu-ray release of the 1967 Disney classic The Jungle Book.
