Following the news earlier this year that Olly Murs had quit The Xtra Factor to focus on music, his former co-host Caroline Flack will be joined by a fresh new face for the third series of the companion show to Simon Cowell’s talent contest.
22-year-old Matt Richardson – known for his stand-up work on the comedy circuit – will be taking over from his chart-topping predecessor to present alongside Flack when The Xtra Factor returns to our screens this autumn. While the line-up has altered, the format will remain the same, with Caroline and Matt heading behind-the-scenes of The X Factor each week to bring audiences unseen auditions and backstage access to judges Gary, Louis, Nicole and newly-announced returnee Sharon Osbourne.
Speaking of her new presenting partner, Flack said, “I’m really excited to be hosting Xtra Factor for the third year! Of course I’m going to miss Olly every day, but I am proud that his music is doing so well around the world.
“I really feel that Matt will bring something completely different to the show. He’s a real find, he makes me laugh and it’s great to introduce new talent. I can’t wait to get started.”
Talking about his new gig, Richardson – who has never had a regular job in television – added, “I cannot describe how excited I am to be joining The Xtra Factor. Working with Caroline and the rest of the team will be an incredible experience and I will do my best to be as good as I possibly can, because I’m never going to be as gorgeous as Olly Murs.”
