Flirtatious City banker Danny Pennant (Gary Lucy) will return to EastEnders just as Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) opens his new restaurant in front of the residents of Walford.
Danny, who was seen last year having a brief affair with Syeed Masood, will be back in E20 on Friday 6 June. And it isn’t long before Ian has Danny pegged as someone who could invest in his business so that Janine (Charlie Brooks) can be bought out.
But when the grand unveiling of the restaurant’s sign shows that cunning Janine has changed the name of the restaurant from Ian Beale @Le Square to Scarlett’s, it looks like Ian will have quite the fight on his hands. Then there’s the added problem of a drunk Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) spilling her drink over Danny – an accident that doesn’t exactly leave him feeling enthusiastic about putting his cash into the business.
Former Hollyoaks and Footballers’ Wives star Lucy said of his full-time return: “I’m extremely excited to be joining such a fantastic show – one which my family are huge fans of and I grew up watching. I enjoyed the little taster last September and am looking forward to exploring my character further, seeing what’s in store for him and which characters it will involve.”
Lorraine Newman, executive producer, added: “We are absolutely delighted to reveal that Gary Lucy will be returning to EastEnders. Gary clearly felt at home on the show and his wonderful portrayal of Danny Pennant left us with an intriguing character to explore. It really was only a matter of time before he returned.
“Danny’s stories will see him crossing paths with some of our best loved characters and I am sure the audience will relish the fact that the complex nature of this character means that nothing is ever simple.”
