Steven Moffat: Most things that have been said about the Doctor Who 50th special are not true

"Normally I'm responsible for the disinformation and the rubbish rumours," says the Who supremo

Think John Hurt is going to be playing a part of the Doctor in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode? Think other incarnations of the Time Lord, such as Christopher Eccleston and Paul McGann, are/aren’t going to appear? Think Matt Smith is going to regenerate? Well think again, because according to Steven Moffat chances are you’re wrong…

“Most things that have been said about the 50th [anniversary special] are not true,” the Doctor Who showrunner told us when we spoke to him at the Baftas on Sunday.

“Normally I’m responsible for the disinformation and the rubbish rumours. I usually put them out myself, but I haven’t needed to for this one – people are spinning off the most amazing things, it’s absolutely mental!”

But Moffat did admit that not all the theories are completely off the wall.

“Some of them are actually quite good ideas – I might use them,” he said.
