Half of Wolverine outdoor movie posters stolen by fans

The striking Japanese-influenced artwork for Hugh Jackman's upcoming superhero sequel has proved too much of a temptation for many

When is an advertising campaign too successful? When fans love the artwork so much they steal it.

Half of the bus shelter posters for Marvel superhero sequel The Wolverine will have to be replaced following a spate of thefts across the US, according to a 20th Century Fox exec speaking to Collider.

The striking promos depict Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, in an oriental sumi ink-style silhouette as part of a campaign for a story that will see the adamantine-clawed character travel to Japan, on a quest to become mortal.

The Wolverine is set for release at the end of July.
