Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer ride for justice in new Lone Ranger trailer

Explosions, horse-based acrobatics and plenty of messing about on trains in the fast-paced film from the team behind Pirates of the Caribbean

The action-packed video teaser sees lawman John Reid (Hammer) return to his home town before witnessing the death of his brother and six other rangers at the hands of an unknown assailant. After being nursed back to health by Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Depp), he forms an unlikely partnership with his saviour and the pair embark on a quest to take revenge.

On their hunt to find the man responsible for Reid’s brother’s death,  they encounter a number of unsavory characters, blow up railways, perform impressive stunts with a fearless white horse and hunt for hidden treasure.

The Lone Ranger is directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the team behind Pirates of the Caribbean, and fans of Captain Jack Sparrow won’t be able to resist making comparisons to Depp’s Tonto (helped by the elaborate headgear and heavy eye makeup).

The Lone Ranger is based on characters first brought to life on radio in the early 1930s and also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Luther’s Ruth Wilson, Tom Wilkinson and William Fichtner.
