Sherlock producer asks fans not to leak film locations or “post pictures or spoilers”

Producer of hit BBC1 detective drama has said Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman would "really appreciate" fans keeping quiet

Sherlock producer Sue Vertue has pleaded with Sherlock’s dedicated fan base, asking them not to share pictures, spoilers or filming locations online.

The much-anticipated third series of Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, is filming at the moment, with photos, tweets and videos being posted on the internet by excited fans on a daily basis. But with the cast and crew about to get the camera rolling in London, Vertue, who is also married to series creator Steven Moffat, has decided it’s time to ask the show’s followers to take a step back from the action and stop sharing the show’s secrets…

In a post to fan site Sherlockology, Vertue said: “As many of you are aware, we’ll soon be embarking on our first London leg of filming for series 3.  I’m also aware that there is quite a lot of speculation about where we’re shooting when.  I can’t stress how  much we the Producers and Benedict, Martin and the rest of the cast appreciate your love and dedication to our show – we’ll endeavour to live up to your expectations for Series 3.

“What I am nervous about is that our London shooting schedule is punishing and will really give us very little time to interact with you.  The actors really hope you understand that.

“Also, and I know this is probably asking a lot, the majority of fans and indeed ourselves would REALLY appreciate it if you didn’t post pictures or spoilers or ideally our daily locations.

“Thanks for your understanding.  Sue x”
