Matt Smith dangles from the Tardis above Trafalgar Square – photos and video

The eleventh Doctor and his co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman were filming scenes for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary earlier today

Yesterday, they were filming at the Tower of London, today the cast of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary have moved to another historic landmark…

In scenes sure to intrigue Doctor Who fans eagerly awaiting the Steven Moffat-penned special, Matt Smith (and possibly a stunt double) can be seen perilously dangling from the Tardis above Trafalgar Square.

After being hoisted into the air by a crane alongside Nelson’s Column, Smith proceeded to film (at least some of) the dramatic scenes whilst suspended above gathering crowds of spectators. As seen in a series of images shared on Twitter, Jenna-Louise Coleman’s character Clara Oswald is standing in the doorway of the Tardis as her travelling companion clings on beneath her.

In between filming, Smith strolled around the square, obliging his gathering fans by signing autographs and filming footage for a behind-the-scenes video, which also features a message from Sontaran commander Strax. Check out the pictures and the video below…
