Tim Burton to direct Big Eyes

The Frankenweenie and Edward Scissorhands director will work with Django Unchained's Christoph Waltz and The Master's Amy Adams on the film

Tim Burton, the director famous for his surreal and gothic films, is set to direct Big Eyes.

Starring Oscar winner Christoph Waltz and Oscar nominee Amy Adams, Big Eyes will tell the story of American artists Margaret and Walter Keane who were famous for their kitsch paintings of doe-eyed children.

The film will follow the couple as their paintings became a sensation during the 1950s and 60s. As the images rose to fame, Walter rose to fame with them, taking sole credit for the works of art. But when Margaret and Walter’s relationship broke down Margaret, who was in fact the real artist, began a battle for the public recognition she was due.

Big Eyes is scripted by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Amy Adams is expected to star as Margaret while Christoph Waltz will play her husband Walter.
