Hypnotism, torture and plenty of fire – it’s the stylish new trailer for Danny Boyle’s Trance

Starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel, the latest offering from the Trainspotting director looks to be a visceral masterpiece

Danny Boyle has kept a low profile since his critically-acclaimed Olympic Opening Ceremony last summer, but that is all set to change with his new film Trance starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel. The psychological thriller – which is released in UK cinemas next Wednesday – has premiered its latest action-packed trailer following its world premiere in London on Tuesday evening.

Trance sees McAvoy playing fine art auctioneer Simon who teams up with a criminal gang led by Franck (Vincent Cassel) to steal a valuable Goya painting.

But when Simon receives a blow to the head, he loses his memory of the heist and Franck enlists the help of hypnotherapist Elizabeth (Rosario Dawson) to locate the stolen goods. As she digs deeper into his subconscious the boundaries between reality and delusion begin to blur to dramatic effect.

The film’s latest trailer sets the tone by telling prospective audiences that “5% of the population can be described as extremely suggestible” and “what we are is a sum of everything we’ve ever done, which is constantly being revised and remembered,” before switching to a series of fast-paced scenes set to a jumpy soundtrack – check it out below:

Trance is released in UK cinemas on 27 March
