Conspiracy thriller Utopia will return to Channel 4 for a second series.
The show, which followed a group of people who came into contact with a graphic novel called The Utopia Experiments and were targeted by an organisation known as The Network as a result, received numerous complaints for its shocking and violent content.
But in spite of lower than anticipated viewing figures, Channel 4 has recommissioned the dark drama.
“Thanks to the extraordinary creativity of [writer] Dennis Kelly, [director] Marc Munden and the team at [production company] Kudos, the first series of Utopia shocked and delighted critics and fans by turns. We are thrilled to announce the further adventures for Utopia’s eclectic cast of characters which are already shaping up to be more imaginative, outrageous and brilliantly intriguing than the first,” Channel 4’s head of drama Piers Wenger told Broadcast.
