EastEnders actress Anita Dobson who portrayed Angie Watts in the Walford-based soap for three years is to guest-star in Radio 4 drama The Archers, RadioTimes.com can confirm.
The TV soap star – who also competed in the 2011 series of Strictly Come Dancing, finishing in seventh place – will join the residents of Ambridge “within the next couple of months” according to a show insider, with rumours suggesting she will play a racy divorcee on the popular radio serial.
The former Queen Vic landlady once helped achieve the highest ever ratings for a soap episode when 30.15 million viewers tuned into the 1986 Christmas Day episode of EastEnders when Angie’s husband, Den (Leslie Grantham), surprised her with divorce papers.
Since quitting EastEnders in 1988, Dobson has gone on to appear in a number of shows, including Red Dwarf, Casualty and her own sitcom series Split Ends, as well as enjoying a successful career on stage.
