Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Seth MacFarlane’s Ted lead this year’s nominations for the MTV Movie Awards 2013, with seven nods apiece, including the coveted prize for Movie of the Year.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar-winning role in Silver Linings Playbook has also been recognised, with the actress receiving nods for Best Kiss, Best Musical Moment, Best On-Screen Duo with Bradley Cooper and Best Scared-As-S**t Performance for House at the End of the Street.
But rivalling her in that final category – that’s Best Scared-As-S**t Performance – is Sherlock’s very own Martin Freeman, who has picked up a nomination for his portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It’s the only category the film is listed for.
Also shortlisted for Best Female Performance are Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables), Mila Kunis (Ted), Emma Watson (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect).
Over in the male category, Oscar-winning Daniel Day-Lewis will have to fend off competition from Argo’s Ben Affleck, Django’s Jamie Foxx, Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike).
Other notable nominees are British actor Eddie Redmayne, who has been recognised for his Best Breakthrough Performance in Les Misérables. He will compete against nine-year-old Beasts of the Southern Wild actress Quevenzhané Wallis, Life of Pi’s Suraj Sharma and Rebel Wilson.
Skyfall’s Javier Bardem has received nods for Best Villain and Best ‘WTF’ Moment for his turn as Raoul Silva. The tussle for Best Shirtless Performance will take place between Christian Bale, Daniel Craig, Taylor Lautner, Seth MacFarlane and Channing Tatum.
