Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 dominated proceedings at this year’s Razzies, “winning” awards in seven of the event’s ten categories including Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screen Ensemble.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, to give the Razzies its full name, is held annually on Oscars weekend to recognise the worst in film, and 2013’s ceremony took place at a hotel less than half a mile away from the location of the 85th Academy Awards.
At the event, Breaking Dawn’s star Kristen Stewart was awarded the Worst Actress gong and Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in the Twilight films, was named Worst Supporting Actor.
Lautner’s on-screen relationship with Mackenzie Foy in Twilight earned the pair Worst Screen Couple and Breaking Dawn part 2 also won Worst Remake/Rip-off or Sequel.
Explaining the lack of love shown to the Twilight saga’s finale by the voting panel, Razzies founder John Wilson said: “I have a pet theory, which is that the box office on Twilight films is very impressive, but my theory is that instead of 40 million individual girls going to see it, it’s 8 million girls going to see it five times each.”
Elsewhere at the event, Adam Sandler won Worst Actor for his performance in That’s My Boy, Rihanna bagged Worst Supporting Actress for her debut feature film appearance in Battleship, and That’s My Boy was awarded Worst Screenplay.
The Razzies, which doles out $4.95 spray-painted golden raspberries to its “winners,” was created in 1980 as an antidote to the Oscars by writer John Wilson.
