Oscar Pistorius documentary commissioned by BBC3

The hour-long special from Mentorn Media will focus on the murder of the athlete's girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day

BBC3 has commissioned a fast-turnaround documentary about the murder of Oscar Pistorius’ girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

The hour-long special, to be produced by Mentorn Media, will be fronted by Channel 4 Paralympics presenter Rick Edwards and will follow the case of Olympic and Paralympic athlete Pistorius who stands accused of murder following the death of Ms Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day morning.

BBC3 controller Zai Bennett said: “BBC Three is never afraid to tackle current affairs and we are committed to showing bold, thought-provoking programmes for 16-34s.

“Mentorn will be producing this programme at incredible speed, and together with presenter Rick Edwards, I’m sure they will deliver a documentary that will bring a new angle to this ever developing news story.”

Executive producer at Mentorn, Steve Anderson, added: “The story of Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp has captured everyone’s attention. It is hugely important and Mentorn has the expertise to deliver it quickly to BBC Three.”

Mentorn has a history of producing fast-turnaround documentaries, having made 2012’s Superstorm Sandy: Caught on Camera for BBC3 as well as Channel 4’s Dispatches: Murder on Honeymoon, following the case of tragic bride Anni Dewani who died in South Africa in 2010.
