“60 years ago the Earth was attacked. We won the war but lost the planet – we had to unlearn what it meant to call something our home.” This is the premise for Tom Cruise’s upcoming sci-fi thriller, Oblivion.
50-year-old Cruise plays drone repairman Jack Harper – one of the last few operatives stationed on Earth, extracting vital resources after decades of war with an enemy known as the Scavs have left the planet uninhabitable.
Jack’s mission is about to be completed, but when he encounters a crashed spacecraft bearing a beautiful stranger, he embarks on a personal journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save the future of mankind.
Add in some dramatic action sequences from Cruise, the dulcet tones of Morgan Freeman, and performances from Bafta rising star nominee Andrea Riseborough and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, and you have a hotly anticipated spring blockbuster.
Oblivion is written and directed by Tron: Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski, and produced by Peter Chernin (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). It is set for UK release on 12 April 2013.
