Helen Mirren is set to star in new Pixar film Monsters University.
The Academy award-winning actress, who has starred in Hitchcock, The Queen and Elizabeth I, will voice Dean Hardscrabble, the headmistress of Monsters University.
Calling herself a “great fan” of Pixar, Mirren said she was “honoured and exhilarated” to be asked to appear in the animated film.
“What a liberation!” the 67-year-old star went on to say. “As an actor, you have two important tools to your trade: your voice and your body. It has been easy over the years to find good roles for my voice, but it has not been so easy to squash my many legs and my wings into the various costumes I have been forced to uncomfortably wear, disguising my true form. Finally I can make good use of both voice and body in a role that seems tailor-made for me—one could say monster-made. At last, the audience can experience the real Helen Mirren.”
Monsters University is a prequel to 2001 film Monsters Inc. and is set around 10 years before. The film follows Mike and Sulley as they meet at university, overcome their differences and become the best of friends.
