Susanna Reid is the most popular BBC Breakfast presenter of all time, according to a RadioTimes.com poll.
The current presenter won by a landslide, attracting 52% of the vote, leaving Sian Williams, who was one of Breakfast’s main presenters from 2005 to 2012, in second with 12% and Reid’s current co-presenter Bill Turnbull third with 8%.
More than 1,500 people voted for their favourite BBC Breakfast host in the survey, carried out last week to celebrate 30 years of the BBC’s morning news and magazine programme.
Sophie Raworth, who left the show in 2003, came fourth, and another current presenter Louise Minchin was fifth.
Reid first appeared on TV as an actress in the Channel 4 mini-series The Price in 1985, but began her journalistic career at BBC Radio Bristol in the 1990s.
She got her big break after joining BBC News 24 when, as a late night reporter, she was asked to stand in for a newsreader who hadn’t turned up for their shift. The channel’s bosses were impressed and Reid was swiftly made a full-time newsreader.
She began working on Breakfast in 2004 and took over from Williams as the show’s main female presenter in 2012. In addition to Breakfast, Reid also presented the BBC programmes Sunday Morning Live from 2010 to 2011 and Turn Back Time: the Family in 2012.
Discussing the result of our survey, Reid told RadioTimes.com: “I am honoured to have earned the respect and appreciation of Breakfast viewers.
“I feel lucky even to be on the list of those brilliant presenters who have hosted this programme over the past 30 years. The whole team works hard to create the best programme we can for our audience every morning.”
