Beyoncé’s National Anthem performance at Obama’s inauguration was “pre-recorded”

Singer’s rendition of Star Spangled Banner on Capitol Hill was not performed live, according to reports

Beyonce’s performance of the American National Anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration yesterday was not performed live, according to reports.

“We did pre-record it and it was Beyoncé’s decision at the last minute to go with the pre-recorded version.” A spokesperson for the Marine Corp Band told The Times.

“We pre-recorded all music as a matter of course and have done since time immemorial,” she said. “This is our 54th inauguration…There is no question of there not being any music – it’s not because the performer cannot do it.”

Although in the past musicians, including Yo Yo Ma in 2008, have used pre-recorded tracks due to bad weather, it is unusual for a vocalist not to perform live.
