Paul O’Grady to host animal awards show for ITV

The British Animal Honours will celebrate the nation's unsung, non-human heroes

Paul O’Grady is to host a new awards show, The British Animal Honours, on ITV later this year.

Celebrating noteworthy pets and working animals from across the country, the show will be filmed in front of a live audience and will, where appropriate, feature on-stage demonstrations of the actions that have attracted praise. There will also be star-studded introductory videos filmed at each winner’s home.

Categories will include the Bravery Award, the Military Service Award, the Inspirational Animal Award, the Superstar Animal Award and the Internet Star Award.

The commission follows on from dancing-dog act Ashleigh & Pudsey triumphing on last year’s Britain’s Got Talent, as well as the broadcast over the Christmas period of the dogs-only talent show That Dog Can Dance! and the annual celebration of human heroics, The Pride of Britain Awards.

The new awards, which are currently described as a one-off event, will be decided on by an expert jury but nominated by members of the public. If you think you know a worthy animal, email
