3D Jurassic Park 4 confirmed for summer 2014 release

Steven Spielberg will produce the fourth instalment of the blockbuster franchise - due in cinemas 13 years after the last part in the series

Jurassic Park 4 is to be released on 13 June 2014 and will be made in 3D, Universal Pictures has confirmed.

The fourth instalment of the dinosaur film franchise will see the return of Steven Spielberg in a producing role. It comes 13 years after the 2001 film Jurassic Park III, which was the only movie in the series not to either be directed or produced by Spielberg – although it was still made by his production company, Amblin Entertainment.

Based on Michael Crichton’s novel, the film series began in 1993 with Jurassic Park, which quickly won critical praise and became a box office success because of its compelling story and ground breaking use of CGI. Directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Richard Attenborough, the film centres on the fictional Isla Nublar near Costa Rica where a billionaire has created a theme park containing cloned dinosaurs.

The Lost World, was made in 1997, and Jurassic Park III followed in 2001.

The original Jurassic Park is to be re-released in 3D this April to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary.
