Lincoln leads 2013 Oscars field with 12 nominations

Steven Spielberg’s historical drama pips Life of Pi, Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook to the most nods

Historical drama Lincoln has been nominated for 12 Oscars and leads the field ahead of the 2013 Academy Awards next month.


Steven Spielberg’s historical drama was nominated for best picture, and garnered a best actor nod for Daniel Day Lewis, and best supporting actor nomination for Tommy Lee-Jones and best supporting actress nod for Sally Field. Spielberg is nominated for best director. 

Life of Pi, Ang Lee’s visually arresting adaptation of Yann Martel’s 2001 novel, has been nominated in 11 categories, including the best film and best director categories, as well as for cinematography and editing.

The big screen adaptation of Les Miserables garnered 8 nominations.  The musical will battle it out for best picture, and has earned Hugh Jackman a best actor nod and his co-star Anne Hathaway a nomination in the best supporting actress category. 

David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook has also been nominated for 8 awards including best picture, best director, best adapted screenplay and best film editing. The film’s leads, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, are also up for Best Actor and Best Actress.
