The Hobbit: Martin Freeman and Sir Ian McKellen in new clip from film

See Gandalf giving Bilbo the Elvish sword Sting in this short clip from the upcoming Peter Jackson movie, due for release Thursday 13 December in UK cinemas

If you enjoyed last week’s seven-minute long “trailer” and fancy seeing another 40 seconds of The Hobbit before the film arrives in cinemas, then good news – here’s a clip from the movie.

It sees Gandalf passing the Elvish sword Sting on to Bilbo and giving the shaggy-haired Hobbit a few life-lessons about the morality of swordsmanship. You might well remember Sting as the blade Bilbo gave to Frodo in the Lord of the Rings movies, which glows blue whenever orcs or goblins are around.

The clip also shows off the carefully-nuanced performances of Martin Freeman and Sir Ian McKellen, who look like they’ll make quite a memorable on-screen pairing when The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is finally released:

The film premiered in Wellington, New Zealand at around 2:50am UK time today (Wednesday 28 November), and you can see a video replay of the red carpet event here.

Directed by Peter Jackson and featuring the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett and Richard Armitage in its cast, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will open in UK cinemas on Thursday 13 December 2012.
