Simon Pegg tweets his way into Phineas and Ferb

Actor was given the voice role after Disney bosses spotted him mention a song from the show online

Simon Pegg has landed a role in the hit animated children’s show Phineas and Ferb.

The Shaun of the Dead star was approached by P&F’s producers after he tweeted “We’ve all got a platypus controlling us!” in reference to one of the show’s central characters, Perry the platypus.

Discussing the incident, Pegg said: “Recently, I tweeted a line from one of the songs featured in Phineas and Ferb – and a couple of weeks later I was asked to come and record some voice parts for the series… I couldn’t say ‘yes!’ quick enough!”

Pegg will be playing Paul, a deliveryman who will feature in the episode Delivery of Destiny, which will premiere on Disney XD UK in spring 2013.

The 42-year-old actor and comedian also revealed that Phineas and Ferb is one of his daughter’s favourite programmes and said that the show is an everyday TV fixture in the Pegg household.

“I’m a massive fan of Phineas and Ferb, my daughter and I fell in love with it immediately and we watch episode after episode as part of our morning routine,” he said.

“I can rewind sections up to 16 times just to watch her laugh and laugh and laugh. It is truly joyous. Recording the characters has been a blast. Phineas and Ferb is smart, energetic and above all, incredibly funny. I can’t wait to see my daughter’s reaction to watching her dad in our favourite show.”

The Disney Channel recently ordered a fourth series of Phineas and Ferb, and a P&F feature film is also currently in development.
