THE RUMOUR: Remember when Lucy Spraggan was a hit during the auditions singing her own songs, and we said right, OK, but what’s going to happen in the live shows when everyone has to do an Abba cover or a big band song? That rather foreseeable crisis has now reached a head, with Lucy annoyed at not being able to sing enough of her own compositions. This week Lucy was absent through illness, but she may not sing again anyway as she’s threatening to quit. Being disciplined for her night out on the town with Rylan hasn’t helped Lucy’s mood either.
QUOTE FROM A “SOURCE” WHO PROBABLY DOESN’T EXIST: “Lucy might quit – she’s tired of being told off. She doesn’t want to sing covers. She was loving it but she’s unwell, which is making her negative… [she also wants to] be paid for the songs which she wrote that are selling on iTunes.” (Daily Mirror)
RADIOTIMES.COM TRUTH RATING: 4/5. Lucy needs an exit strategy. Even when binge drinking’s answer to Pam Ayres did sing her own song – Mountains, in week one – it was a suspiciously airbrushed, X Factory composition that sounded nothing like her audition pieces. Her vocals certainly aren’t good enough to take her any further if The X Factor won’t let her do her original, lo-fi act. On the other hand, it would be very unusual, and pretty bad PR for the show, if a contestant chose to leave this far into the competition, for reasons everyone watching saw coming a mile off… Continued illness, or Lucy doing the full Cocozza and being disqualified, might be blessings in disguise.
