We asked you to vote and you obliged... As we prepare to bid the Ponds farewell, find out which are your favourite ever Amy and Rory moments

Here at, we love a challenge – or, rather, we love giving you a challenge. That’s why we asked you to do the near impossible and vote for your favourite ever Amy and Rory moment.

Well the results are now in and the good news is you get six for the price of five, since two classic moments received an equal number of votes.

So, in descending order, the top six Amy and Rory Pond moments are as follows…

1. “Why do you keep coming back for us?”

Way out in front was this touching exchange between the Doctor and Amy from their penultimate adventure together, The Power of Three. It’s not difficult to see why so many of you chose it since it was the first time the Time Lord and his companion directly confronted the impending end of their relationship – and because the Doctor’s response to Amy is pure poetry…

The Doctor: “One day — soon, maybe — you’ll stop. I’ve known for a while.”

Amy: “Then why do you keep coming back for us?”

The Doctor: “Because you were the first. The first face this face saw. And you were seared onto my hearts, Amelia Pond. You always will be. I’m running to you, and Rory, before you fade from me.”

Amy: “Don’t be nice to me. I don’t want you to be nice to me.”

The Doctor: “Yeah you do, Pond. And you always get what you want.”

2. “Where. Is. My. Wife?”

Rory’s no tough guy but when you turn him into a robot Centurion, make him wait aroud for 2,000 years and then steal his wife, well, then he gets angry…

3. Amy discovers River Song is her daughter

Ask any soap fan and they’ll tell you that shocking paternity revelations are a staple of good drama. Unexpectedly finding out you’re someone’s mother is a little less common (especially when they’re older than you) but in Doctor Who it works — and creates what must be one of the biggest revelations in the show’s history…

Amy: “Where is he going? What did you tell him?”

River: “Amy, you have to stay calm.”

Amy: “Tell me what you told the Doctor.”

Rory: “No, stop it.”

River: “It’s okay, Rory. She’s fine. She’s good. It’s the Tardis translation matrix. It takes awhile to kick in with the written word. You have to concentrate.”

Amy: “I still can’t read it.”

River: “It’s because it’s Gallifreyan. It doesn’t translate.” River hands Amy a leaf. “But this will. It’s your daughter’s name in the language of the Forest.”

Amy: “I know my daughter’s name.”

River: “Except they don’t have a word for pond. The only water in the forest is the river. The Doctor will find your daughter. And he will care for her, whatever it takes. And I know that. It’s me. I’m Melody. I’m your daughter.”

4. Fish fingers and custard

The chaotic first time Amelia Pond and her raggedy Doctor came face to face deserves its place among the best Pond moments ever – although the culinary dish in question is arguably less of a classic…

5. Centurion Rory punches the Doctor/Amy discovers Rory is not gay

In equal fifth place, more macho Rory — again demonstrating his love for Amy but this time on the Doctor’s face — followed by another revelation for Amy: Rory’s not gay, he’s just in love with her…
